(Reuters) – Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant described new teammate James Harden as “incredible” after the security guard scored a triple on his debut for the team in his NBA win between 122 and 115 against Orlando Magic on Saturday night Double.

Harden joined the Houston Rockets Nets Thursday to reunite with Durant – his former teammate at Oklahoma City Thunder. The duo looked dominant in their first game alongside the Brooklyn team.

Durant hit a season high of 42 points, while Harden, the 2018 NBA MVP, became the seventh player in NBA history to triple-double on his debut with a new team, scoring 32 points, 12 rebounds and Completed 14 assists.

“It was amazing. You could see him trying to figure out how to play best early on. I felt like we were overtaking everyone and trying to make everyone comfortable,” Durant told reporters.

“Then he got into his mode and was aggressive to score. That opened up the whole game for all of us. I’m glad he has his feet under him, he has to go further, get better every day.”

Durant said he was impressed with Harden in the role of point guard and that Kyrie Irving missed his sixth straight game due to personal reasons and health and safety protocols.

“James played the way he always played … the way he played in Houston. He handled the ball, was a former security guard and tried to make his boys look good,” said Durant.

“Coach got him to the point … I think that’s his natural position. Point, combo guard. For him, getting 14 assists and 12 rebounds for us at point guard was key.”
