What is the Sales Funnel?
A marketing funnel isn't a real funnel. The use of the word "funnel" for this concept of marketing is to aid in visualizing and explaining a sales process from the beginning to the end. It has a broad opening for customers who are known as "Unqualified Prospects" at its top and a smaller opening for conversion sales at the bottom. This is a good comparison.

We may call these "unqualified prospects" at the top or entry of the funnel. They are those who may require your services or products, but have not been approached by you prior to. After several sales and promotions, you will have gotten people who have purchased your product or service.
Another reason the concept of a lead generation funnel works is that it allows you to monitor your potential prospects actions at different stages of the sales process. Utilizing the sales funnel to measure the amount of qualified prospects at every step, you will be able to predict how many potential customers will become actual customers.
A sales funnel will allow you to determine exactly how is going on and how your sales process is failing or working or failing, or if your marketing campaign isn't getting a sufficient amount of prospective customers at any point in the process. This will allow you to choose exactly where you should focus your attention and work to maintain sales at the required level, and, in turn, fulfill marketing goals. It can be used to monitor and evaluate the customer's sales process.
The Front - End or Sales Funnel The top
The most important part of your sales funnel should undergo continuous testing and will be the most active. There are virtually endless front-end strategies that are limited only by your creativity and resources.
The front-end's main objective will be to draw in potential clients and convert these buyers into buyers down the sales funnel.
Once a prospective client opts-in to your offer, they become "qualified". This is the point of the sales funnel where the prospective customer, or "Unqualified Prospect" becomes qualified leads because they have taken an action that may have enough interest to purchase your product or service.
To make your front-end effective, you need to direct targeted traffic to your blog, website or squeeze page blog. PPC advertisements articles, banners, article marketing, PPC advertisements, social media (Google+ Twitter Facebook YouTube), YouTube, banners, blog posting forums, and many other sources are some of the most effective techniques and resources.
There are a variety of tools that can be used to "qualify the unqualified prospect". The most effective is the squeeze page. You can provide something of value that is connected to your product/service that people are able to get for free or at a drastically discounted price in exchange for their email. There are a variety of products to choose from such as newsletters, videos, email courses ebooks, as well as related reports.
So we see that the front-end of your sales funnel is the place where folks are drawn into your sale funnel. Now what about the back-end?
The Back-End or Bottom of the Funnel
The bottom or back end of the sales funnel is where the main sales and profits are generated. It is also where you'll discover the more expensive products. They all belong to the same subject, but in a different format like audio, video or live interaction.
The primary difference between the front-end and back-end is the kind of client, as well as the cost of the product or services being offered.
While it's true that only 1-2 percent of the people who access your front-end will be able access your back-end, this small percent may not be of any significance. It's okay, because this tiny segment will be investing more money.
You see, that while front end products and services can be priced at less than $100, back-end items and services typically cost in the 100s or 1000's. This makes the top of the funnel, or the back-end, the primary source of income for your Internet business. It's also the most reliable and secure area of the process of selling.
The sales funnel is as simple or complex as you would like to make it, as long you have the proper resources and the right ideas.
